Assistive Technology
Sound Solutions
Assistive technology plays an important, although often overlooked, role in the lives of people who are Deaf or hard of hearing.
IDHHC staff are available to assist clients in identifying the information they are missing. For example, you may be unable to hear the smoke detector at night or are unsure if someone has rung your doorbell. Once we have identified the issue, we are able to make suggestions for the appropriate technology to purchase.
In addition to recommendations, we have a library of equipment that is available for loan so that clients can determine the benefit of an item prior to purchasing it.
Some examples of such devices include…
- Amplified telephones
- Portable one-to-one communication devices
- TV listening systems
- Smoke or fire alarm alerting devices
- Sound signalers (doorbell, crying baby)
- Specialized alarm clocks
