$1 = 1 ballot
Help us achieve our fundraising goal of $10,000 to support
Deaf, Deaf-Blind and hard of hearing individuals be fully engaged
during these COVID times and help us reduce communication barriers.
If you or someone you know has a hearing loss, then you know firsthand how isolating it can be. It can be difficult to engage in activities and social gatherings because it is too difficult to hear what everyone is saying. The health and social consequences of hearing loss can lead to embarrassment, anxiety, depression, fatigue, and cognitive decline. According to Stats Canada 8.4 million adults in Canada are dealing with some degree of hearing loss…. that is one in 10 Canadians. There are also approximately 350,000 Deaf individual in Canada who use Sign Language as their means of communication.
The Island Deaf + Hard of Hearing Center provides leadership, innovative solutions, and services through engaging and educating communities, strengthening families, and fighting isolation.
During these COVID times virtual communication has been vital. Help us continue to educate individuals on ways they can communicate with family, friends and colleagues through online workshops, assistive technology devices, ASL instruction, speechreading classes and ensuring that important provincial information is available in American Sign Language.
