Our Staff

The Island Deaf and Hard of Hearing Centre, the only non-profit agency of its kind on Vancouver Island, provides leadership, innovative solutions and services through engaging and educating communities, strengthening families, and fighting isolation.

Our staff includes audiologists, interpreters, sign language experts, speech-reading professionals and more. We work together to help bridge communication gaps, improve hearing health and connect individuals with meaningful employment opportunities.

Denise Robertson
Executive
Director


Denise Robertson joined IDHHC as Executive Director in June 2012 with a background of 20 years program and fund development on Vancouver Island.

Leslee Scott
Manager - Family and Community
Services (Victoria)


Leslee Scott came to IDHHC as Manager of Community Services in 2015 from Kelowna where she worked for 20 years as Rehabilitation Counselor. She has worked with Deaf and hard of hearing persons in various roles since 1980.

Susanne Harnden
Community
Outreach


Susanne Harnden joined IDHHC as a Community Outreach Worker in May 2011 and is very involved with Deaf Community in Victoria.

Szilvia Korda
Communications
Associate


Szilvia Korda joined the team as Communications Associate in June 2016 and has over 20 years of experience as a Communication Health Assistant and is a member of Speech-Language & Audiology Canada. In 2016 she became a certified Speech Reading instructor and facilitates Speech Reading Level 1 and Drop-In classes.

Kristi Falconer

Kristi joined the IDHHC team in April 2018 after having spent 24 years as a Registered Sign Language Interpreter on Vancouver Island. She has been an advocate for Best Practices and Deaf access issues throughout her career and looks forward to this new role focusing on equal access and communication with Deaf individuals in the community.

Kara Winlaw

Services


Kara Winlaw joined IDHHC as an Employment Counsellor in May 2018. Kara has a Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy and significant work experience in vocational rehabilitation, job coaching, case work and action plans for employment and the social services field.

Brenda Curts joined IDHHC in November 2017 in reception and administration support and has over 15 years’ experience in senior administration and office management.

Alex Walker

Alexandra Walker has a M.Ed. in Counseling, and is an active CASLI/WAVLI member. She has worked for most of her professional life in social services and has been with IDHHC for over 20 years.

Janet McDonald

Janet McDonald joined the Employment Services team in May of 2016 with over 7 years in the Employment Services field, B.A. in Psychology and Life Coaching and Career Development training.

Anna Bosa
Hearing Health Services/
Administration Support


Anna Bosa joined IDHHC Nanaimo in September 2018. Anna has over 10 years of administration experience working with government agencies. She is looking forward to providing Hearing Health Services and Administration Support for the agency in the mid-island region.
