The Island Deaf and Hard of Hearing Centre, the only non-profit agency of its kind on Vancouver Island, provides leadership, innovative solutions and services through engaging and educating communities, strengthening families and fighting isolation.

Island Deaf and Hard of Hearing Center (IDHHC) has established the Sound of Change Initiative, designed to provide refurbished hearing aids to vulnerable and at-risk populations including low-income seniors and adults. The goal of this initiative will be to provide hearing assessment and treatment services and, working with local community partners, provide free refurbished hearing aids to vulnerable populations. IDHHC employs a clinical Registered Audiologist to perform hearing assessments, followed by fitting or recommendation of hearing aids or other technical devises. Additionally clients then also have a personalized communication plan developed for them consisting of hearing rehabilitation treatment services – services also provided free of charge by IDHHC.

Hearing aids are available to low income (income verification required) seniors and adults on Vancouver Island. All initiative participants need to be IDHHC Members (membership is $25/year).
